If you enjoy snowmobiling in the winter, the Leech Lake area is the perfect place for you! The Leech Lake area offers hundreds of miles of trails groomed specifically for snowmobilers. With the many open fields, forests and lakes that cover the area, it could take you all winter to explore all the snowmobile trails available.

Two of the most popular snowmobile trails are the Heartland and Paul Bunyan trails, and they offer the best snowmobiling in Minnesota! The paved Heartland Trail stretches 50 miles across Minnesota and runs past the towns of Walker, Cass Lake, Akeley, Park Rapids and more. This scenic trail passes through prime Minnesota lake country and provides a secluded feel for the perfect snowmobile adventure.

The Paul Bunyan Trail is also a paved and level trail that runs for 110 miles from near Brainerd all the way through the Chippewa National Forest near Walker. The trail finally ends at Lake Bemidji State Park. This trail also provides a very scenic ride and features many trail crossing rivers and nearby lakes.

Many bars and restaurants along these trails cater specifically to snowmobilers and offer snowmobile parking and heated gear storage. Before you head out on your Leech Lake snowmobiling adventure, make sure to check out our snowmobiling trail conditions and trail reports to stay up to date on the trails’ grooming schedules.
