6 Best Items for a Minnesota Road Trip

Thursday, October 22nd, 2015

We’ve said it before, but fall is a great time to jump in your car or grab your motorcycle and head out on a road trip. An ill planned road trip can lead to some unfortunate events and might even ruin your vacation though. To avoid that, we’ve put together a list of the 6 best items to pack for a Minnesota road trip.

1) A Good Playlist

A good playlist is the soundtrack to your entire trip. Make sure you have your iPhone up to date with all your favorite tunes, have your MP3 player charged up, or have piles of CD’s on hand. Music will help keep you energized and entertained while on the road.

2)  GPS/Map

With how great technology is these days, people generally have a GPS system with them at all times. It makes road trips a lot less stressful when the driver knows where he/she is headed. In case you get off the beaten path and don’t get cell service – make sure you have a map on hand too.

3) Phone Charger

Make sure you have your cell phone charger, and that it is easily accessible. The last thing you want is your phone to die when you’re lost and using a GPS system. Or, in the unlikely event of an emergency, having your phone on and ready to call for help when you need it.

4) Emergency Kit

We all know that Minnesota weather can be unpredictable. Even the fall can bring some intense storms. Make sure that your vehicle has the following: blankets or a sleeping bag, snacks, water, lighter and a small candle, and a first aid kit. Jumper cables and a road-side kit with flares are good things to have on hand, too. You probably won’t need to use it – but it’s always best to be prepared.

5) Comfortable clothing

Being in uncomfortable clothing can ruin a road trip. We suggest packing the basics. T-shirts, long sleeves, flannels and sweatshirts for tops. For pants, bring some that are comfortable and don’t pinch. For shoes we suggest tennis shoes, hiking boots, or others that are easy to walk in. Don’t forget about hat and mittens too! Minnesota weather can change fast, and you’ll need to be ready for all types of weather -layering is a great strategy! When you reach your destination, you’ll be ready to enjoy everything the city has to offer, no matter the weather.

5) Camera

Fall brings the most beautiful leaves and scenery, which is why bringing a camera on a road trip is essential. You’ll be able to look back and remember the road trip for years to come with all the pictures you took along the way.

6) An Extra Set of Keys

Avoid being locked out of your car in the middle of your road trip. Bring a spare key and have someone else in charge of it. That way if the driver does lock the keys in the car, it won’t be a damper on the trip.

Pick your favorite road and plan your Leech Lake stay this autumn, now!
