Leech Lake Fishing Report for Jan 30, 2020

Thursday, January 30th, 2020

Any type of road system continues to be very limited and it’s impossible to travel off the few that do exist due to a lot of slush. There’s a few people set up off the first break in Walker Bay, but main lake travel was not an option early this week. Even the resorts that do have roads plowed are dealing with water on them and are limiting use to their rental house customers. A track vehicle is your best bet, but even that can be difficult with all the slush.

Leech Lake Fishing Report for Jan 23, 2020

Thursday, January 23rd, 2020

Fishing pressure has remained low due to the inability to move around the lake. Some walleyes are being caught on the south end with setlines and a minnow in 15 to 22 feet, but again, access and travel options are very limited. During the day, some perch are being caught in 12 to 16 feet along the south end as well. There’s been a bit more activity in Walker Bay, but most of it is close to shore off Lighthouse Point.

Leech Lake Fishing Report for Jan 16, 2020

Thursday, January 16th, 2020

Lake conditions have improved – a bit. There’s still quite a bit of slush throughout Walker Bay and main lake areas. Track vehicles remain the best travel option in Walker Bay where some walleyes are being caught during low-light periods on the 20- to 30-foot humps or 15- to 18-foot shoreline breaks. There are some roads plowed out of Trapper’s Landing on the south end, but you’ll want to check with them on availability heading into this weekend.

Leech Lake Fishing Report for Jan 9, 2020

Thursday, January 9th, 2020

Slush continued to be a major issue throughout the lake early this week, basically, the lake is a mess. A string of cold days would do wonders for settling and freezing the slush and ultimately allow more anglers to get out. Heading into this weekend, you’ll want to continue working through resorts for road and travel options. Activity on the main lake has been minimal, but there has been a few anglers getting to the humps in Walker Bay and catching a few walleyes in 20 to 22 feet.

Leech Lake Fishing Report for Jan 2, 2020

Thursday, January 2nd, 2020

Travel options were limited early this week after another 10 inches of snow hit the area last weekend. Ice depths are good, with 11 to 15 inches reported in the areas being fished on the main lake, but the deep snow and additional slush are making it difficult to get around. Heading into this weekend, it’s probably best to check with a resort for current road and travel options. The anglers venturing out were catching walleyes and northern pike in 15 to 26 feet.
