Leech Lake Fishing Report for Feb 28, 2019

Thursday, February 28th, 2019

The lake is a mess after last weekend’s wind and snow. Drifts and slush have caused major issues throughout the lake, while anglers and resort owners alike were still in clean up mode early this week. Make some calls before heading out this weekend to see if lake conditions have improved and what access or travel options exist.

Leech Lake Fishing Report for Feb 21, 2019

Thursday, February 21st, 2019

The lake is covered with deep snow and slush, and even the spots where roads are plowed are starting to experience some flooding issues in areas. Off-road travel is nearly impossible without some type of track vehicle, and you’ll come across pockets of slush on those as well. There are some opportunities to get around parts of the lake, primarily in Walker Bay, out of Trapper’s Landing, and a few other areas, but it’s tough to get around. The few walleyes being caught are coming from the humps in Walker Bay over 30 feet or more and on the 16- to 20-foot structure on the main lake.

Leech Lake Fishing Report for Feb 14, 2019

Thursday, February 14th, 2019

Setlines and shiner minnows are producing a few walleyes each evening on the 15- to 20-foot points or 30- to 35-foot humps in Walker Bay. Some perch are being caught on the north side of Walker Bay or Agency Bay in 12 to 18 feet. The deep water in Walker Bay also is worth hitting for eelpout. There are roads plowed to some areas of the lake, but a snowmobile is your best option – it allows you to get away from the crowds.

Leech Lake Fishing Report for Feb 7, 2019

Thursday, February 7th, 2019

Shiner minnows continue to produce a few walleyes throughout Walker Bay in 22 to 32 feet. The south shore flats out of Trapper’s Landing also are producing some walleyes over 20 to 25 feet. Sand Point continues to produce perch in 6 to 12 feet, but you have to sort through a lot of small fish and you’ll increase your odds of putting a few more jumbos on the ice if you’re willing to stay on the move. Snowmobiles are the best mode of transportation since it’s tough to get off the plowed roads that exist.
