Leech Lake Fishing Report for Dec 27, 2018

Thursday, December 27th, 2018

There’s 14 to 16 inches of ice in the Trapper’s Landing area, and there are roads marked out to Huddle’s Reef, Diamond Point, and Roger’s Point. Ice depths continue to vary from 8 to 14 inches in Walker Bay and 12 to 16 inches on the main lake. Walleye action has been best with shiner minnows and setlines during low-light periods on the points and reefs in 14 to 18 feet. Stay mobile during the day in these same areas, but work deeper water with jigging baits.

Leech Lake Fishing Report for Dec 20, 2018

Bigger walleyes and a few keeping-size fish are being caught on the main lake flats and Stoney Point areas in 14 feet. The Sand Point area continues to produce perch, but you’ll have to sort. Crappies are being found suspended over deep water in Shingobee Bay and the south side of Walker Bay. Some small houses have been pulled out of Trapper’s Landing where 16 inches of ice is reported, the main lake has 12 to 14 inches of ice, it varies in Walker Bay from 8 to 14 inches, and there is a heave to watch for north of Pelican Island.

Leech Lake Fishing Report for Dec 13, 2018

The main lake now has areas with 10 to 14 inches of ice. Walker Bay is capped with 8 to 10 inches around the shorelines, but thinner ice the farther out you go, so you need to watch where you travel. Spoons and hole hopping is producing walleyes on the south end rocks in 10 to 14 feet. The Sand Point area is giving up perch and a few walleyes in 6 to 10 feet. Look to Trader’s Bay in 12 to 15 feet for perch and a few walleyes as well.

Walker Bay is capped and some foot travel has started close to shore. On the main lake, ice depths vary from 3 to 8 inches. There has been some perch caught in 6 to 10 feet in Kabekona Bay, around Shingobee Island, GrandVu Flats, and out from City Park in Walker Bay. Walleye action has been limited to a few fish off the south end humps.

  • Leech Lake Art League. Relax and tap into your creative side by joining the ongoing weekly painting group at Leech Lake. It’s open for both members and first-time visitors. If you’d like to work on your own form of art, you’re welcome to do so! The League meets from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every Thursday.
  • Leech Lake Chamber Holiday Open House. Socialize, grab a bite to eat, and celebrate the holidays with the Chamber Holiday Open House on December 18th. It’s free to attend!
